Graphic application programs supported by Cascade Print Media
Adobe Photoshop
Widely accepted as the premiere image editing application. Photoshop documents are accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's digital outservices. Please note that, when working in a raster format, you must work at a resolution adequate for the size and resolution of your final output.
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe's vector drawing applicatoin. Accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's digital output services. Ideal for creating vector graphics. Illustrator is not well suited for art requiring large amounts of text or multi-page publications.
Macromedia Freehand
Macromedia's vector drawing application; a direct competitor to Illustrator. Freehand provides excellent text support and has multi-page capabilities. Accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's services.
Adobe InDesign
Adobe's premiere layout application; the successor to PageMaker. Accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's services.
Adobe PageMaker
Widley used page-layout application. Accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's services.
Quark Xpress
The most widely used application for page layout and publishing. Accepted for all of Cascade Print Media's services.
Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
A file format designed by Adobe to be platform and software independent. Cascade Print Media has limited acceptance of PDF's because of resolution and color space issues and the ability to make separations. PDF's are recommended for proofing purpose only.
Cascade Print Media job submission guidlines
What to submit?
If you were creating your document in a raster (pixel-based) application such as Adobe Photoshop, please confirm that your file is of sufficient resolution for output. If you are creating your document in a layout application such as Adobe PageMaker, Adobe InDesing or Quark Xpress, or in a vector based drawing application such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand, please be sure to include all necessary elements (fonts and links). Cascade Print Media also asks for hardcopies (proofs) with every job submitted for printing.
Include Fonts
Please be sure to include all fonts used in your document with your job submission. Fonts submitted should inlcude printer (outline or postcript) and screen (bitmap) font elements. Please use native font variations rather than applying any font style attributes from font style menus. For example, use the font "Times Italic" rather than using "Times" and selecting Italic from the pull-down style menu.
Include Links(imported art)
Please link (rather than embed/copy and paste) all imported art. Ensure that all links are present and updated prior to submitting your files for output. All supporting art must be TIFF or EPS format. Please also make sure that the files are CMYK rather than RGB.
Hardcopies
A proof or B&W hardcopy is required with every job submission. Asking us to proceed without a hardcopy waives Cascade Print Media's responsibility for cost of any rework.
Submitting Jobs
Please include all elements and only the elements needed for processing your job. Please organize fonts, supporting art, and print files in an intuitive manner on your transportable media (click picture to left to see example). We support most industry standard transportable media, and we also accept digital file submissions. Contact Cascade Print Media's customer service department for further assistance.
Resize Before Export Resize complex illustrations in your drawing application -- not the layout program -- to avoid output errors. (Specifically, we've occasionally seen thin diagonal lines extending over the page with some EPS graphics.)
Choosing a File Type Do not use: GIF, CGM, WPG, BMP, WMF, EMF, PICT, OLE, JPG, or copy-and-paste from a different program (i.e., Excel). These graphics should be converted into TIFF or EPS format as appropriate.
